Black Friday Mania 2010

November 19, 2010 in Articles

I don’t need to explain the term Black Friday to any seasoned shoppers.

Falling on November 26th this year, the deals on this pseudo-holiday promise to be great as always. Usual discounts for this time of year, paired with discounts to attract buyers in a tough economy will ensure you don’t leave stores empty handed- unless you have superhuman willpower.

This year, let the men have reign of the electronic meccas of Best Buy and Radio Shack, and make your way to some retailers who are offering great deals on fashion. Yes, you can get Christmas shopping done but also pick up some items for yourself without feeling guilty.

The Rules

  • Plan Ahead: Look up Black Friday ads before the big day. Sites like bfads.net have actual scans of ads for a variety of stores. If you don’t see what you want, visit your favorite retailer’s website to see if they advertise their deals ahead of time. Make a list of store you want to visit and in what order.
  • Arrive Early: Sleeping in after a day of Thanksgiving feasting sounds wonderful, but the early bird really does get the work when it comes to Black Friday. If you want clothing in your size and at the best prices, you need to arrive first! Most stores open at 5AM or even earlier.
  • Have No Shame: Now is not the time to worry about seeming pushy or even desperate. Every shopper is looking out for themselves, so do the same. You should remain polite, but if you normally wouldn’t run to grab the last designer dress off the rack, throw that inhibition out the window.

The Retailers

  • Macy’s: This year, Macy’s is offering a $10 off coupon in their 2010 ad to accompany the other great deals they already have going on. Designer cashmere sweaters, leather jackets and purses are 50% off. Doors open at 4AM, so set your alarms.
  • Old Navy: With already low prices, this is a great stop for basic t’s for you and clothes for the kids. There will be sweaters and jeans for $15 among other deals.Old Navy will open Friday at midnight, so don’t even plan on going to bed after Thanksgiving dinner.
  • Kohls: If you have never thought of Kohls as a place you would buy clothing, try it out this year. Sweaters for $10, 50% off the Simply Vera Wang collection and lots of great deals on men’s and children’s clothing. Doors open at 3AM.

And if you don’t want to face the Black Friday crowds this year, there’s always Cyber Monday.
